How to Unlock the Close Encounters Side Quest
Before you can begin searching for alien evidence, you must first complete the introductory mission titled Free Larry. This initial encounter takes place at the Parker Laboratories location, situated just west of Fall's End in John's Region. Once you help free the eccentric scientist from his malfunctioning generator, he will provide you with this follow-up investigation.Larry will direct you toward a massive crop circle located nearby on the map. Cultists from the Project at Eden's Gate have taken over the field, meaning players must prepare for a brief skirmish. Clearing out these hostile forces beforehand ensures a much safer environment for thorough exploration.
Locating the Four Extraterrestrial Objects
The primary goal of this investigation involves collecting four distinct alien artifacts glowing with a mysterious blue energy. The first object can be found inside a dead cow located near the center of the crop circle layout. Approaching the animal allows you to interact with the anomaly and secure the strange piece of technology.
The remaining artifacts are scattered in different sections around the immediate agricultural field. One piece is located high up on top of a wooden silo, which requires careful climbing using nearby scaffolding. Another artifact is guarded by a hostile wild turkey that will attack on sight if you get too close. The final object rests inside a small, glowing crater surrounded by burnt vegetation.
Securing the Area and Returning to Larry
After successfully gathering all four items, you will notice a sudden change in the local atmospheric conditions. The strange devices emit a peculiar audio signal that confirms their otherworldly origin. You must ensure all remaining cultist reinforcements are dealt with before leaving the premises.
Once the area is completely secure, make your way back to the Parker Laboratories outpost. Handing the collected pieces over to the scientist allows him to advance his complex research setup.
